Manual therapy involves hands-on techniques using manipulation and mobilizations. A manipulation is a skilled, quick movement of small amplitude applied to a joint. Mobilizations are repetitive, gentle, and rhythmical passive movements applied with graded amplitude to joints. The purpose of both manipulation and mobilization is to relieve pain, and to restore proper movement and function to restricted joints and associated soft tissues.
Provide an early return to sports and/or work activity as a result of our focus on active, not passive modalities. A program is established for improving strength, balance, coordination, proprioception, endurance and flexibility. All our programs are specifically tailored to the client’s particular sport or occupation.
Acupuncture is a therapeutic method used to encourage natural healing, reduce or relieve pain and improve function of affected areas of the body. It is safe and effective and is often successfully used as an alternative to medications.
Ideal for extremities, contrast baths used to decrease swelling and increase range of motion for acute and post-operative conditions.
Including ultrasound, TENS, muscle stimulation, infrared laser and interferential current.
The Footmaxx System provides detailed computer
analysis of your gait pattern and foot’s pressure
distribution as you walk over a computerized force plate.
The sophisticated diagnostic software produces instant
2D and 3D graphic images of dynamic pressure under
your feet. Slipper casting is used in conjunction with
collected data to produce prescription custom orthotics
and gait analysis reports.
Mechanical traction involves intermittent or sustained pressure in a direction to distract joint surfaces. This is used to treat patients with spinal pain in the neck or lower back. Traction is also effective for relief of neurological symptoms radiating to the arm or leg. Many herniated discs respond favourably to traction.
In April 2007, Metrotown Orthopedic and Sports Physiotherapy Clinic expanded and moved to it’s current location. Our facility is more than 6000 square feet with 16 treatment rooms, shower and change rooms, education room and a beautiful North Shore mountain view. We have over 2000 square feet of spacious gym which boasts state-of-the-art rehabilitation equipment including electronic upright and recumbent stationary cycles, treadmill, elliptical trainer, and the latest in work conditioning, strength, balance, and core stability training.
We are associated with the School of Rehabilitation Science, UBC. We are also involved in the SFU Co-Op. Program for fourth year kinesiology students.
For acute and chronic ligament and/or tendon injuries. This allows for early re-entry to sports and/or work. All our physiotherapists are trained in the McConnell taping method, used to re-educate muscle balance and restore normal movement patterns.
Core Strengthening is the training of muscles that provide body stability during movement and activity. The muscles that make up the ‘CORE’ are located in the back, abdominal wall and pelvis. These muscles also affect alignment and posture. Basic core stength training can be done without equipment, while advanced core strengthening may combine the use of swiss balls, elastic bands, and balance boards. Core strength training is vital in both the recovery and prevention of injury. |
