Clinical Pilates Physiotherapy in Burnaby
Reformer Clinical Pilates
Clinical Pilates Physiotherapy is a 1:1 appointment where the physiotherapist will assess your injuries or condition and then may utilize the pilates reformer, props and mat pilates exercises to address your condition.
The physio may also use manual therapy, IMS or other treatment modalities during this appointment - this is a discussion you can have with your physio during your appointment.
The reformer is a piece of exercise equipment that is highly adjustable and spring loaded in order to support and challenge you. Due to the nature of the equipment it is ideal for:
chronic pain
low back / neck pain
osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis
hyper-mobility (EDS)
injury prevention and cross training from other sports (soccer, tennis, field hockey, running, pickleball etc)
work related overuse strain
Clinical Pilates
Pilates Physio is a 1:1 session utilizing either the reformer or mat pilates, and can include some time spent on manual therapy, electro modalities or IMS (dry needling)
Pilates can help manage the physical demands of workplaces especially for nurses, pharmacists, mail carriers, teachers, desk professionals and other jobs that require heavy moving or sustained positions.
This can be a great tool post surgery in the return to sport journey, as well as in treating lower back and chronic pain conditions, as well as an injury prevention tool for athletes especially unidirectional and one side dominant sports such as tennis, badminton, field hockey, running, cycling and golf.
Pilates can help those with Hypermobility spectrum disorders find strength and stability in the midrange of joints and build posture and core stamina and stability thus mitigating pain and preventing hyperextension related injuries.
Fertility, Pregnancy & Postpartum
Clinical Pilates and the reformer is a safe and effective way to exercise during fertility treatments, pregnancy and postpartum. Special considerations need to be taken at each phase of this journey but as the equipment is highly adaptable we are able to support you throughout this process.
We can use this to help treat aches and pains that arise as well as help you connect to your pelvic floor and prepare your body for labour, birth and the physical demands of caring for a child and returning to sport.
